I am currently in my second year of studying a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing and I believe the course has prepared me well for university. Throughout my diploma I have learnt a large range of skills including design, illustration, pattern cutting, garment construction, fabric manipulation and sewing skills. I have enjoyed developing my ideas through experimental techniques and I think this is something I would be able to continue to do on your course. I love discovering new processes and techniques which I can apply to my work as I find it particularly interesting and exciting, which is another reason why I aspire to continue my education. The fast development of the art and design world is something that I find fascinating, I love the way in which just one event can literally have an effect on everything whether in be directly or not. After attending the open day, I felt that Manchester was definitely a place where I was able to draw inspiration from my surroundings and the facilities in the fashion department will help me to build upon these. The course at Manchester School of Art covers all the areas of fashion design that I’m particularly interested in including working with industry professionals which i see as being extremely important to gain a greater understanding of a working design department. I feel by being a part of this course I would be able to develop my skills to their full potential and push myself to become better than I ever thought I could be. I realised at a young age that I’m an extremely self motivated person and I always apply myself fully to my work, as it is something I find enjoyable and rewarding. I think my passion for the subject and positive attitude will help me to produce the best outcome in everything I do, even when things don't go to plan. As Victor Kiam said, "Even if you fall on your face, you're still moving forward."
